Gender Mainstreaming in Potato and Apricot Value Chain under the Economic Transformation Initiative (ETIGB)

The Government of Pakistan and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has signed a Financing Agreement for the execution of Economic Transformation Initiative Gilgit Baltistan (ETI-GB).  One of the core objectives of the project is to ensure inclusion, i.e. to be extra vigilant that women are equally benefitted by the project. The Objective of this assignment was to develop a gender strategy for the component and deliver related training to concerned staff of PCU and implementing agencies.

 

The specific tasks undertaken by the Mera Maan team included:

  • Assessment of key issues around gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • Consultations with internal and external stakeholders on key gender issues and opportunities to advance women’s economic empowerment in GB
  • Developing strategy and providing a report that articulates the priorities and strategies for gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • Providing highly quality expertise and guidance on effective ways to integrate gender needs into the implementation of the program
  • Developing training material and behavior change communications materials on gender equality and women empowerment
